Among other things, hips.

I know I was supposed to finish that other post about predatory behavior and treats, but I got some news about Frodo and there are a few other things I wanted to touch base on.

First things first, Frodo is going to get a PennHip done when I get back to Pennsylvania. Frodo is now staying with Jennifer (another friend of Liz and mine) and we were chatting the other day and it came up that frodo has a "sore" left hip. He's never been a huge fan of having his hind end messed with and I've never pushed the subject, but apparently he will not even, with the help of peanut butter, allow his right hind nails to be clipped because it puts pressure on his left hind hip. This worries me. A lot. I've never ruled out that he might some day have hip dysplasia, he doesn't have the best breeding with results that would prove otherwise. But he's only four! I'm trying not to jump to conclusions, but I've decided to get his hips checked as soon as possible after I get back from PA, which means right now I am vet searching and trying to find someone who will sedate him so he doesn't have to be put under with ace.

I'm currently contacting the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Potomac to see if they have any suggestions for a good PennHip certified vet. I plan on posting to Corgi-L to see if I can get any results from there as well. Fortunately I have a lot to chose from as PennHip started at UPenn and that is in Pennsylvania, who'd of thunk it! So right now I'm just trying not to get myself thinking of worst case scenarios and all that jazz since there is nothing I can do until I get back to PA anyway.

Moving on, I have updated pictures from Jennifer!!

It brings me great joy to know that he is being sufficiently tortured!

In other news (don't I have the world's best transitions?!) I was rethinking the housetraining plans and I think I may have gone a little overboard. I tend to have a thought and then let my mind run away with it, I can get quite overzealous. I think I am going to scale back the plans and potentially stop at the use of pads if he gets to that point. If I get an apartment with tile/linoleum in at least one section and I lay down more than one pad I don't see that it would be a problem. We shall see, this is definitely a work in progress!

Last set of news! I am looking into getting Frodo a new collar. An epic new collar. Details if it pans out...

I think that's all for now. Hopefully back to the regularly scheduled broadcast from here on out.

You so could have left out the one with me in it :p He is certainly getting loved on by the three of us here and getting tortured as well :D

A training blog about the trials (not the fun kind!) and tribulations of trying to get my 4 year old insecure, reactive, ill-mannered, thick-skulled Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Frodo, ready to move from rural Pennsylvania to the city of Minneapolis in the span of a summer. Grab a seat and sharpen a pencil, class is in session!
